By Felipe V. Celino
ROXAS CITY, Capiz — About PHP 1 million worth of property was destroyed after two houses were razed by fire Friday afternoon, Oct. 2, in Barangay Cogon, Panay, Capiz.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Panay said it received the fire call around 3:28 p.m. and immediately responded to the area.
The fire reportedly started at the house of Nestor Calinao, which was made of mixed materials.
Firefighters declared the blaze out around 4:02 p.m.
No one was injured in the incident.
Calinao told investigators that his neighbor’s brother had been tapping electricity from his house to an adjacent property.
He said he had left the house to buy snacks for laborers working in his rice fields when someone informed him that his house was on fire.
Calinao returned and found the house engulfed in flames.
He said he had unplugged all appliances and electrical extensions and secured his liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank before leaving the house.
BFP arson investigators are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
