BACOLOD CITY – A fire disrupted cable and internet services in Sagay and Escalante cities after a two-story building of a cable and internet service provider was gutted Saturday afternoon in Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Fire Officer 2 Ian Dave Defiño, chief of the Investigation and Intelligence Unit of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Sagay, said the fire started at around 2:39 p.m. on the second floor, which served as the company’s storage area.
Employees on the ground floor saw thick black smoke rising and evacuated before the flames spread.
The second floor contained highly combustible materials such as cable wires and paper receipts, prompting the BFP to raise a second alarm.
Fire units from Escalante and Cadiz cities, along with volunteer responders, helped extinguish the blaze.
The fire caused an estimated PHP3.87 million in property damage.
Fire out was declared at 5:24 p.m., with no reported injuries.
The firm provides cable and internet services from E.B. Magalona to San Carlos City in northern Negros Occidental.
Defiño said connections in E.B. Magalona and Victorias City were restored later that afternoon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
