Teachers from Pagaypay Elementary School in Passi City, Iloilo recently participated in a one-day seminar designed to enhance their knowledge of personal finance and entrepreneurship, thanks to a joint initiative by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main Campus.
Organized through DTI’s Negosyo Centers in Passi City and Dingle, the training aimed to help teachers develop strong financial habits and foster an entrepreneurial mindset—skills they can apply personally and share with their students.
Representatives from BSP offered practical guidance on budgeting, saving, debt management, and investing, while DTI resource persons covered the fundamentals of starting and running a small business.
The seminar also highlighted the role of teachers as financial literacy advocates within their schools and local communities.
“Financial education doesn’t just benefit individuals—it uplifts families and strengthens communities,” said Buena Mae Renturo, a resource person from BSP.
“By starting with our teachers, we’re laying the foundation for long-term, positive change.”
The initiative forms part of DTI Iloilo’s ongoing efforts to drive grassroots development through education and capacity-building.
It also supports the Department of Education’s campaign to integrate life skills and financial education into classroom learning.
Similar programs are expected to launch in other schools across Iloilo as part of a broader effort to make financial literacy accessible to every Filipino.
