With the risk of being infected with COVID-19 still high, some people have resorted to staying inside their homes for the foreseeable future.
Some think it’s the perfect time to relax while some think it’s a perfect time to complete some unfinished business.
For Pinoy game developer Tiger Yan, the COVID-19 lockdown has given him the rare opportunity to revive his old dream project of creating a game about the Vietnam War.
With no basic knowledge about computer programming, Yan used the downtime he had by learning the skills he needed to finish the project he started back in 2003.
“I was always interested in history and the Vietnam War in particular. I started creating The ‘Nam: Vietnam Combat Operations way back in 2003 but work and life were more important, so the project was mothballed for 17 years. Like everyone else, the COVID-19 outbreak forced me to stay home most of 2020. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to learn basic programming and finally finish what I started,” shared Yan.
The game is all about creating strategies and having the experience to command various troops during the Vietnam War.
Under your troop selection, you can play as the US Marines, Vietcong and North Vietnamese, and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam.
“In reality, the Vietnam War brought great misery for the people of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. If this game can spur at least one good donation, then it would have been worth it,” Yan added.
