National University standout Jake Figueroa is officially taking his talents overseas after signing with the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
The team announced the acquisition Friday, formally welcoming the Bulldogs’ do-it-all winger, who played a pivotal role in NU’s Final Four campaign this UAAP Season 88.
Figueroa helped steer NU to the No. 1 seed at the end of the eliminations with an 11–3 record, anchoring the squad on both ends of the floor throughout the season.
He is also set to earn a spot in the UAAP Season 88 Elite Team after averaging 13.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.0 block per game.
In his final appearance for the Bulldogs, the 6-foot-3 winger tallied 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals in their 73–78 Final Four loss to De La Salle University.
“Sobrang blessed ko na tinapos ko yung playing years ko sa NU,” reflected Figueroa, who was named to this season’s Mythical Five. “Sobrang ganda nung journey na tinahak namin, lalo kaming mga seniors.”
Figueroa also credited NU head coach Jeff Napa for shaping his maturity and leadership on the court during their five years together.
“Yung pagiging leader at mature sa loob ng court [ang natutunan ko],” he said in an ABS-CBN interview. “Yun naman ever since yung sinasabi sa akin ni coach, maturity talaga.”
The move marks a major step in Figueroa’s young career as he joins a KBL franchise known for developing versatile and high-IQ players — traits that have defined his rise in collegiate basketball.
He now becomes one of a growing number of Filipino standouts making their mark in the Korean league as international opportunities for homegrown talent continue to expand.
