BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod recorded fewer fire incidents here last year at 206 against 262 in 2020.
Despite the decrease in the incidents, the number of injured persons last year increased – from 2 in 2020 to 6 in 2021.
Five civilians were injured while one firefighter was also wounded. No death was reported last year.
Aside from that, the BFP also noted that P9,089,150 worth of properties were destroyed last year against P7,015,706 in 2020.
BFP records also showed that residential fire incidents increased by five, from 40 in 2020 to 45 the following year.
Other fire incidents included commercial fire (7), industrial (3), mixed type occupancy (2), storage (2), special structures and vehicle (20), grassfire (36), rubbish fire (2), and electrical post fire (85).
The highest number of fire incidents last year was recorded in December with 52, followed by 24 in October; and 21 each in March and September.
According to the BFP, most of the fire incidents were electrical in origin, while some were LPG-related.
Despite this, the BFP noted that the over-all decrease in the fire incidents in the previous year was attributed to the “Oplan Ligtas sa Pamayanan (OLP)” recorida of the BFP, a campaign which educates and informs the public about fire prevention and safety, particularly those residing in fire prone areas.
