BACOLOD City – Crimes in Negros Occidental during the Holy Week from April 3 to 9, 2023 decreased by three incidents from 68 in 2022 to 65 this year.
Based on data released by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), one murder case was reported in Moises Padilla town, two homicide cases in the cities of Escalante and San Carlos, one physical injury incident in Talisay City, one incident of rape in Sagay City, one incident of robbery in Cadiz City, and one carnapping of motorcycle in Talisay City.
For violation of special laws, 23 cases were reported while 20 vehicular accidents were also recorded during the said period.
Seven cases were solved while 58 others are under investigation, according to Nocppo.
Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, Nocppo’s public information officer, said that the deployment of more personnel in strategic areas has attributed to the reduction of crimes and vehicular accidents.
Despite the ease in restrictions amid the pandemic, Catalogo also noted that people are now more aware of the safety measures especially when traveling or leaving their properties for vacation.
He said that only one drowning incident was reported in Sipalay City on April 9, but they only received the report the following day as the family wanted to keep their privacy.
