One of the greatest imports to ever set foot in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) hardwood will be making a grand comeback in the hoops scene of the Philippines.
In an official social media post by the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws on March 18, 2024, the UAAP collegiate basketball program announced that they just tapped the services of Sean Chambers to become their new chief tactician.
“FEU Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Chambers as Head Coach of the FEU Tamaraws men’s basketball team,” FEU wrote on their official Facebook page.
Chambers first cemented his name in the PHL basketball landscape in 1989 when he played for the Alaska Milkmen in the import-laced conference.
After a monster debut with the PBA squad, Chambers became their resident import up to 2001 and won six titles under the Alaska franchise.
Chambers helped Alaska clinch the PBA title last 1991’s third conference, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 Governor’s Cup, and the 1996 Commissioner’s Cup.
He was the recipient of the PBA Best Import Award during the 1996 Governor’s Cup and had his jersey retired by the Alaska franchise last 2001.
After his playing years in the PBA, Chambers received multiple coaching stints in the country, acting as Alaska’s consultant from 2017-2019 and became an assistant coach of the TNT Tropang Giga until now.
Chambers replaced Denok Miranda, a former PBA point guard who won two titles during the 2007 Philippine Cup and the 2011 Governor’s Cup.
Under Miranda’s tutelage, the Tamaraws only finished with a disappointing record of three wins and 11 losses during the UAAP Season 86.
However, Miranda will not be leaving the FEU lair after being named as the school’s overall head of basketball operations from the high school level to college.
