BACOLOD CITY – A fetus sealed in plastic was found in a river in Purok 3, Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
Police Capt. Joelan Vinson, deputy chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said a group of children were fishing when they noticed plastic floating in the water.
Barangay officials later informed police about the discovery of the fetus, which was believed to be around four to five months old.
Vinson speculated that it may have been left there or carried by the strong river current from upland barangays.
The fetus had complete body parts, but its gender could not be determined.
An investigation is ongoing to identify the parents, though Vinson acknowledged the difficulty in tracking them in such cases.
Barangay officials initiated the burial of the fetus, he said.
