Federer enters 18th career Wimbledon quarterfinals

Roger Federer is not done yet. He wants more.

After cruising through the first three rounds of the 2021 Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, the Swiss Maestro proved he can top his previous performances by outclassing world No. 23 Lorenzo Sonego in three straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2, to reach his 18th career grass-court quarterfinals.

Despite the injuries that hobbled the 20-time Grand Slam champion this year, Federer looked like his old self and was in attack mode the whole three sets against Sonego.

The lawn tennis legend was back scoring with his unorthodox angles, slicing the ball deep to where the opponent can’t reach while approaching the net to wow the crowd once again.

Sonego connected on his powerful backhands in the first set but wasn’t enough to clinch the set and would fall apart in the next two.

Federer’s whopping 79% first service winning percentage was the highlight of the night as he rammed the ball with his powerful hits.

Also, Federer’s consistency with his shots was a major factor in his victory and only committed one double fault in the three-set span.

World no. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia also qualified for the tournament quarterfinals after crushing Cristian Garin in the fourth round, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
