BACOLOD CITY — A father has died and his son was injured following an explosion at Purok Lomboy, Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Monday evening.
Police confirmed the deceased as Remy Libo-on, 58, and his injured son as Arnel, 34. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Indiape Jr., the city police chief, the pair were collecting charcoal when the blast occurred around 7 p.m.
Indiape reported that Arnel sustained bodily injuries, while Remy suffered head injuries. They were both taken to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital for treatment. Regrettably, Remy succumbed to his injuries in the hospital the following day.
The cause of the explosion, or its origin, has not been established yet, said Indiape. Witnesses, including the victims, did not observe anyone suspicious in the vicinity before the explosion.
