Fatal stabbing over misunderstanding in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – A woman died in a hospital hours after she was allegedly stabbed by her father-in-law amid a misunderstanding in Barangay Hacienda Fe, Escalante City, Negros Occidental last Friday.

The police have withheld the names of the 37-year-old victim and the 66-year-old suspect.

Police investigation revealed that the victim, accompanied by her one-year-old baby, was passing by the suspect’s house when he confronted her about past disputes. A heated argument ensued, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the woman in the stomach.

Major John Ganzon, the city police chief, said the victim suffered three fatal stab wounds.

After the incident, the suspect fled but surrendered upon seeing police officers, who were alerted by the victim’s family. The suspect has alleged that the victim struck him in the face, prompting his violent response.

Ganzon speculated that a longstanding grudge between the victim and the suspect might have escalated during their confrontation.

The suspect is potentially facing homicide or murder charges, as per the police chief’s statement.

In a separate incident, a 56-year-old man died after being stabbed by a 30-year-old laborer during a drinking session at his home in Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla town. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim, later taken to a hospital, was declared dead, the police reported.
