BACOLOD CITY — A 29-year-old farmer wanted for murder was arrested by police in Siaton, Negros Oriental on Monday.
Police served an arrest warrant against the suspect, identified only as “Michael,” which was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 44 in Dumaguete City, with no bail recommended.
The suspect was tagged as the No. 8 most wanted person in the Negros Island Region.
According to the Police Regional Office–NIR, the suspect allegedly hacked the victim while they were on their way home after a drinking session, resulting in the victim’s immediate death.
Further investigation disclosed that the attack stemmed from a long-standing grudge, as the victim had previously been implicated in the killing of the accused’s brother.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO–NIR director, commended the operatives for their exemplary dedication, professionalism, and teamwork that led to the successful apprehension of the wanted individual.
Ibay assured the public that the regional office will sustain its intensified manhunt operations and continue to strengthen law enforcement efforts in coordination with local government units and the community to deliver justice to victims and their families and bring to account those who attempt to evade it.
“No one is beyond the reach of justice,” he said in a statement.
