BACOLOD City – Police believe that misunderstanding and drunkenness might be the motives for the killing of a farmer at Purok Caimito, Barangay Quezon, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
The victim was identified as Jesus Manaytay, 34, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jesus Mesahon, city police chief, said Manaytay was invited by the suspect identified as 60-year-old Vicente Bandoy to a drinking session at the latter’s house.
While they were already drinking, Bandoy allegedly noticed that Manaytay was having a meaningful look or gestures towards his daughter, Mesahon said.
When Manaytay went to the comfort room, he allegedly called the suspect’s daughter to get him a dipper. When the suspect’s daughter approached him, the victim allegedly pulled her.
This irked the suspect, prompting him to allegedly stab the victim several times that caused his immediate death, Mesahon said.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the barangay watchmen and was later turned over to the police.
Mesahon said the victim’s family decided not to press charges against the suspect, provided the latter will help them with the victim’s burial.
