Farmer Slain by Relatives Over Grudge in Calatrava

BACOLOD CITY – A 33-year-old farmer was killed after he was allegedly shot by four relatives due to a long-standing grudge in Sitio Lunesan, Barangay Laga-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.

The victim was identified only as “Ron,” a resident of the said village.

Police Maj. Wilfredo Benoman Jr., chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said the victim was transporting corn to his home when he was waylaid and shot by his 45-year-old cousin, identified as “Dodo,” around 1 p.m.

Despite a gunshot wound to the stomach, the victim managed to escape, Benoman said.

Ron sought help from his 70-year-old mother to take him to a hospital.

However, four hours later, while they were en route to the barangay proper, the victim was ambushed again.

Upon seeing his three nephews, aged 20 to 25, Ron tried to flee but was pursued.

He collapsed, and the three suspects allegedly shot him in the head.

The victim died at the scene, while his mother was unharmed.

Benoman said the incident was reported only on Monday due to the remote location.

The motive remains unclear, but police suspect long-standing personal grudges among the relatives.

The victim’s mother plans to press murder charges against the suspects, according to Benoman.
