Farmer shot to death at funeral wake

A farmer was shot dead in a funeral wake evening of Jan. 19 in Janiuay, Iloilo.
The victim was identified as Gerald Magarso Malones, 35, a resident of Barangay Panalian Maasin, Iloilo.
The area is just adjacent to Barangay Ubian, Janiuay where the incident happened.
Captain Alwin Salmon, Janiuay police chief, said Malones had a heated argument with a certain Rubini Paurillo Tubis, also a resident of Ubian village, immediately prior to the incident.
“We’re still trying to ascertain what triggered the verbal tussle between them,” he said.
The suspect was just seen pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim in the chest and left armpit.
Tubis immediately fled and remains at large, as of this writing.
Maloney was brought to Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Janiuay town but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Recovered from the crime scene was a fired cartridge of caliber .45 fired pistol.
