A farmer was wounded after he was shot by a home intruder early Nov. 22 in Estancia, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as a man known as Roger, 59, a resident of Barangay Villa Panian, Estancia.
Investigators said they believe the assailant broke into the house with the intent to commit robbery.
Reports said Roger was with his wife and two grandchildren when the incident happened.
At around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, he woke up and went to the comfort room to urinate.
He reportedly heard an unfamiliar noise as he stepped out of the room.
He then saw an unidentified man rummaging through a cabinet in their living room.
He allegedly shouted at the man, who immediately fled.
Moments later, the same man returned, this time armed with a gun.
The assailant shot Roger and hit him in the abdomen.
Members of the Estancia Municipal Police Station were immediately informed of the incident.
Police said Roger was still inside their home when they arrived.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town.
In a follow-up investigation, police received a report of a burglary at a welding shop in Barangay Tabu-an, Estancia, about an hour before the shooting.
Investigators said the suspect stole a grinder and PHP 150 in cash.
