BACOLOD CITY – Police discovered a farmer deceased in a sugarcane field at Sitio Cot-cot, Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Vicente Mercado, 65.
Authorities stated that Mercado was burning a sugarcane field for cultivation purposes. Unfortunately, he did not exit the burning plantation in time, resulting in his death. A neighbor later found him lifeless.
A police report concluded that Mercado died from asphyxiation and suffered second to multiple-degree burns.
