BACOLOD CITY — A heated argument between a 39-year-old farmer and his stepson escalated into the fatal shooting of the farmer in Purok Kapehan, Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
A police investigation showed that the suspect, identified only as 21-year-old Jay-r, was drinking coffee inside their house when the victim arrived.
An argument suddenly ensued between them, prompting the suspect to reportedly take an improvised 12-gauge shotgun locally known as a “sulpak” and allegedly shoot the victim, hitting him in the forehead and hip.
The victim was brought by the barangay rescue team to a rural health unit but was declared dead.
The suspect was later arrested by authorities and will face appropriate charges.
Police said the victim and the suspect had previous grudges, which may have escalated when the victim reportedly confronted his stepson.
