BACOLOD City – A farmer died after he was hacked inside his house at Purok Ipil-Ipil, Barangay Calapi, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
The victim was identified as Alex Estrada.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Necerato Sabando Jr., town police chief, said Estrada was asleep when two persons entered his nipa hut around 11:20 p.m.
These two persons were identified as sugarcane workers – Rasel Dela Peña and a certain “Glendy”, who allegedly hacked the victim with a bolo, and fled, Sabando said.
Estrada succumbed to multiple hack wounds. The bolo used in the incident was not recovered by police.
Sabando said they are looking into grudges as a possible motive in the incident.
The following day, Dela Peña surrendered to the police in Himamaylan City, and was later turned over to the custody of Hinigaran Municipal Police Station.
Sabando said that Dela Peña would allegedly usually create alarm and scandal every time he’s drunk, according to the barangay officials. But no one reported his actions to the police.
Sabando said they could not tell if Dela Peña was drunk when he allegedly committed the crime. His companion is still at large.
