BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating the motive behind the killing of a 33-year-old farmer at Sitio Talagbuan, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Rene Fernando.
Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., town police chief, said the victim went to a store to connect to Wi-Fi when he was shot by an unidentified person around 7 p.m.
Benoman stated that the victim ran a few meters from the scene before he fell to the ground.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest that exited through his back, according to Benoman.
His family and barangay officials brought him to a hospital, but he was declared dead.
Benoman mentioned that they are checking the background of the victim to help determine the motive behind the incident.
