ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A farmer discovered a bag containing live ammunition, a grenade, and magazines for high-powered firearms in Sitio Star Apple, Barangay Rizal, Pontevedra, Capiz on Wednesday afternoon, June 11.
Reports from the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station said the bag was found by a farmer identified only as alias Nonoy while he was cutting grass in the rice field of Sangguniang Bayan Member Erwin Borres.
Nonoy reportedly tossed the bag to a higher area of the field but was startled by a metallic sound and decided to open it, finding several rounds of ammunition and a grenade inside.
He immediately informed his employer, Borres, who then sought police assistance.
In a media interview, Borres said he believes the bag, which contained EOD-marked items and magazines for an M16 rifle and M203 grenade launcher, may have been discarded or hidden by someone.
The recovered ammunition and explosive materials were turned over to the Pontevedra police and the Philippine National Police–Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) unit for proper handling.
