The Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT) continues its 2023 season with the second leg at the renowned Faldo course of Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite, starting Monday, March 10.
Known for its demanding layout, the course promises to test the precision, patience, and adaptability of the competitors, setting the stage for an intense battle.
With no clear favorite, the field is wide open. Top contenders, including Daniella Uy, Chanelle Avaricio, Sarah Ababa, Mafy Singson, Mikha Fortuna, and Florence Bisera, are eager to rebound after falling short in last week’s opener at Pradera Verde.
The absence of LPGT champion Samantha Bruce, who is competing abroad, and the participation of several local standouts in the Thailand LPGA further intensifies the competition.
“The Faldo course is a different kind of challenge,” said one official. “Its tricky greens, strategic hazards, and unpredictable winds will push players to their limits.”
Among the international threats is Korea’s Seoyun Kim, who tied for second with Uy at Pradera Verde. Fellow Korean Tiffany Lee is also looking to bounce back after faltering in the final round last week despite holding a share of the 36-hole lead.
Reigning LPGT Order of Merit champion Harmie Constantino is another player to watch. After a surprising 22nd-place finish at Pradera Verde, Constantino seeks to rediscover her winning form. With four titles last season, she remains a formidable contender.
Other notable challengers include Martina Miñoza, Chihiro Ikeda, Kristine Fleetwood, and young Annika Cedo.
Each player aims to make their mark on the Faldo course, where the PHP 750,000 championship purse, sponsored by ICTSI and organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc., is at stake.
