Ex-village chief nabbed for loose firearms

BACOLOD City – A former village chief in Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla, Negros Occidental, is facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, following his arrest at his house via a search warrant last Wednesday.

According to Police Lieutenant Victor Blaza Jr., deputy police chief of Manapla Municipal Police Station, the charges were filed yesterday against 77-year-old Weddy Libo-on.

Blaza said they raided Libo-on’s house after they recently received a report on his alleged violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law.

Police recovered during the raid a .45 caliber pistol, three magazines of .45 caliber, 24 live ammunition of .45 caliber, a .375 caliber revolver, five live ammunition of .357 caliber revolver, an improvised shotgun, and nine 12 gauge live ammunition.

Blaza said the suspect, who was also a former ABC president in the town, has yet to explain why he had these firearms.

“Basi siguro depensa niya man kay may uma na da siya,” he added.
