BACOLOD CITY — Police are eyeing a personal grudge as a possible motive behind the killing of a 63-year-old former barangay captain in Sitio Tunga, Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
Based on police investigation, the victim, identified as “Alex,” was riding a motorcycle heading home when he was shot by an unidentified person around 5 p.m.
The victim fell from his motorcycle after sustaining a gunshot wound to the waist, and he was declared dead in a hospital.
Police Capt. Jesus Alba, chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said the gunman fled on a motorcycle with an unidentified companion.
Recovered from the scene were a spent cartridge and a fired bullet from an unknown firearm.
Alba said they are backtracking closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to help identify the perpetrators.
Alba said the victim was released from jail two years ago after serving time for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
On Oct. 2, the New People’s Army (NPA) claimed the fatal shooting of a man in Barangay Tigbao, tagging him as a military asset.
