Ex-NPA finance officer surrenders in Kabankalan City

BACOLOD CITY — A suspected former finance logistics officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) abandoned the armed struggle and voluntarily surrendered to police in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
Based on a report from the 3rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Negros Island Region (RMFB-NIR), the former rebel approached authorities through an intelligence-driven initiative and expressed his desire to return to the government and his family.
Upon surrendering, the rebel returnee turned over a .38-caliber revolver without a serial number and five rounds of live ammunition.
He then underwent initial profiling and debriefing and received cash assistance and a sack of rice as immediate aid for his family.
In a statement, the 3rd Maneuver Company vowed to continue its efforts and remain committed to sustaining peace and order in the community.
The unit also encouraged others still involved in lawless activities to lay down their arms and choose the path of lawful and peaceful living.
