Ex-mate, lady colleague nabbed for illegal drugs

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A former inmate and his female colleague were arrested Monday afternoon, Feb. 16, in a drug buy-bust operation conducted by Roxas City Police Station in Barangay San Jose here.

The police identified the suspects as alias “Jun,” 45, a welder; and alias “AJ,” 28, both Street Level Individuals and residents of Angel Ville, Barangay San Jose, Roxas City.

The operation was conducted by the Special Drug Enforcement Team of the Roxas City PNP at around 1:18 p.m. at Angel Ville in Barangay San Jose, where 12 grams of suspected shabu with a standard drug price of PHP 81,600 were seized, including PHP 2,500 in buy-bust money.

Police reports said alias Jun was arrested and jailed for the same offense a few years back but was released after availing himself of a Plea Bargaining Agreement. He returned to his illegal activities a few months ago.

The two suspects are in the custody of Roxas City Police Station while charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared against them.

San Jose punong barangay Albert Calipayan confirmed in a media interview that the suspects are not residents of his barangay, saying the two were from Barangays 9 and Punta Tabuc.

Meanwhile, Pontevedra police failed to arrest a suspect during the implementation of a search warrant Monday afternoon, Feb. 16, in Barangay Tacas, Pontevedra town.

Operatives were, however, able to confiscate seven sachets of suspected shabu from the house of alias Hugo.

Police also recovered from the premises a caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunitions, drug paraphernalia, and non-drug items.

Police are preparing to file charges for violating RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act, against the suspect.
