BACOLOD CITY – A 46-year-old former police officer was arrested Wednesday after he was allegedly caught stealing a teenager’s motorcycle in a residential area in Barangay Cabug.
Police Capt. Andro Ma-apni, spokesperson of the Bacolod City Police Office, said the suspect may have seen the unattended motorcycle parked in front of the victim’s house and attempted to take it.
Ma-apni said the 19-year-old victim heard his motorcycle start and reportedly saw the suspect driving it away.
He said the victim immediately alerted the village security guard, who intercepted the suspect at the subdivision’s exit gate after confirming the motorcycle description.
Responding officers arrested the former policeman, who now faces charges under Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
Police said he is being held at Police Station 9.
Ma-apni said the suspect joined the police service in 2010 but was later dismissed for multiple offenses, including physical injury and theft involving motorcycle parts.
