Ex-cop, 3 others nabbed in PHP 2.82 million drug bust

By Jennifer P. Rendon
ILOILO CITY — A dismissed police officer and three others were arrested after authorities seized more than PHP 2.8 million worth of suspected illegal drugs in an anti-narcotics operation in Pototan, Iloilo, on the afternoon of Oct. 14.
Police identified the suspects as alias “Rolly,” 47, a former police officer; alias “Gary,” 46, and his son, Warren; and alias “Robert,” 48, all residents of Barangay Cahaguichican, Pototan.
Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, together with personnel from the Pototan Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Unit and Regional Intelligence Division 6, arrested the suspects during a buy-bust operation in the area.
Police alleged that the four acted together in selling a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP 13,500.
Following their arrest, police seized four more sachets and two knot-tied plastic bags containing suspected shabu, along with several nondrug items.
Maj. Dadje Delima, IPPO-PDEU chief, said the seized drugs weighed around 415 grams and had an estimated value of PHP 2.822 million.
During the operation, police also arrested alias “Nick,” 36, a seafarer from Barangay Cabalabaguan, Mina.
Delima said Nick allegedly interfered with police officers as they attempted to arrest the four suspects.
Police said Nick would be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1829, or the Anti-Obstruction of Justice Law.
According to Delima, Rolly and Gary had previously been subjects of police anti-drug operations.
Robert allegedly served as Gary’s trusted associate in illegal drug transactions.
Police reports indicated that Rolly was dismissed from the police service more than 10 years ago after testing positive for illegal drug use during a random drug test.
Delima said the IPPO-PDEU began monitoring several dismissed police officers, barangay officials and other government personnel in 2024, including Rolly.
Police made several attempts to arrest Rolly after he was placed under monitoring, but he allegedly managed to evade apprehension.
Authorities said the suspects allegedly sourced their drug supply from multiple personalities based in Iloilo City and the province of Iloilo.
The four drug suspects are detained and face charges for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
