A former punong barangay was arrested in a police anti-narcotics operation in Calinog, Iloilo, early on September 25.
Alias Osing, 41, a former barangay captain of Owak village and now a job order employee of the Calinog local government, was apprehended in a buy-bust operation at Baje San Julian in Calinog.
Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office–Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (IPPO-PDEU) Team 2, Calinog Municipal Police Station, and the IPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit seized four plastic sachets of suspected shabu and several non-drug items from the suspect.
Major Dadje Delima, IPPO-PDEU chief, said the seized drugs weighed around 155 grams with an estimated standard drug price of PHP 1,054,000.
Police identified Osing as a newly listed high-value individual.
He admitted to his involvement in the illegal drug trade and identified a certain Danny from Passi City as his supplier.
Delima said the operation was based on information from a concerned citizen, and after over a year of surveillance, authorities confirmed Osing’s illegal drug activities.
He reportedly operated in Calinog and its neighboring towns.
The suspect is now in the custody of the Calinog MPS and will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Colonel Bayani Razalan, Iloilo police chief, commended the PDEU for their efforts in neutralizing a high-value target.
He also thanked the Ilonggo community for their continued trust and cooperation.
Razalan vowed IPPO’s sustained campaign against illegal drugs and reaffirmed their commitment to peace, order, and the safety of every Ilonggo.
