Tokyo-bound Eumir Marcial will take the boxing scene by storm as he is set for his first professional debut in Los Angeles, California this October.
Just days after signing a six-year, multi-million contract deal with Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions, the Filipino boxing prodigy announced he has inked a bout in the middleweight division.
MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons confirmed the schedule and added that they will be arranging things for Marcial to train and avail the expertise of legendary coach Freddie Roach and the famous Wild Card gym.
Gibbons said that they are planning to give Marcial two to three more bouts after October, not only to boost Marcial’s bid for a middleweight name but to also help him maintain his sharpness heading into the Tokyo Olympics.
“Hopefully we’ll do something in October and then we’ll work from there, hopefully about three fights before he stops and fully concentrate on the Olympics. At the most, he’ll probably do three fights before he gets ready for the Olympics,” said Gibbons.
However, Marcial prefers to bring in his Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) coaches during his training sessions, the staff behind his amateur success.
“Gusto ko pa rin kasing makasama sa training ko yung mga ABAP coaches ko. Siyempre Olympics pa rin yung pinag-hahandaan talaga natin at amateur pa rin yung lalaruin natin doon (Olympics),” said Marcial.
With the request of the Filipino boxing sensation, Gibbons and the MP Promotions are already finalizing options to bring in his ABAP staff.
