BACOLOD City – A female motorcycle rider died while competing in the Endurance Challenge 400 Negros Island 2019 Road Tour at Barangay 1 Poblacion, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on Sunday.
Police Major Clifford Batadhay, town police chief, identified the fatality as Mary Grace Pe, 23, of San Jose, Antique.
Batadhay said the victim was approaching a road curve when her motorcycle swerved, causing her to lose her control of the bike.
She was thrown off the bike and hit her head on the ground, he added.
Another participant stopped and rushed her to a hospital in Kabankalan City, where she expired few hours later due to serious head injuries.
Batadhay said that Pe was wearing complete safety gear but her injuries were too severe.
He said the accident could have been prevented if there was coordination with law enforcement units on the road safety and security of the event, stressing that “safety is a priority.”
He said Pe’s remains were already transported to her hometown.
