BACOLOD CITY—A 36-year-old electrician died after being sideswiped by a panel van at Sitio Overflow, Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, just hours before Christmas Eve on Tuesday, December 24.
The victim was identified as Rolan Alcontin.
According to police investigations, Alcontin stopped by the roadside to inspect his motorcycle, which had encountered mechanical trouble.
While attempting to kickstart the motorcycle, a passing panel van struck him.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, authorities said.
Police Capt. Joelan Vinson, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, stated that the vehicle involved remains unidentified.
“We were able to stop a panel van, but the driver denied involvement, and there were no witnesses to the incident,” Vinson said.
He added that officers recovered suspected tissue from the vehicle’s mudguard, which has been sent for examination.
“If the tissue matches the victim, we can confirm that it was the same vehicle involved in the accident,” Vinson said.
