BACOLOD City – A 74-year-old woman was found dead in a sugarcane field at Purok Mahogany, Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Norma Tribunsay, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim’s family alleged that she left their house last Saturday to sell a carabao or pig.
She was last seen at about 3 p.m. walking way home from Oringao public market, Guadalupe said.
However, Tribunsay’s body was discovered the following day by some children who were looking for spiders at the area.
Guadalupe said the victim’s personal belongings were scattered in the area when police arrived at the crime scene.
She suffered head injuries which may have caused her death. She was probably hit by a hard object, Guadalupe said.
Guadalupe said they are still trying to check if the victim had a big amount of money on her way home to establish the angle of hold-up. But based on the initial investigation, her wallet was not recovered from the area, he added.
Guadalupe believed that the victim was followed by the unidentified suspects on her way home.
Police have yet to determine the number of suspects responsible for the crime.
