An elderly woman was killed while her niece was wounded after they were hit by a speeding van early morning of Sept. 24, 2019 at Barangay Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Police identified the fatality as Ninfa Hisug, 69, of Zone 5, Barangay Tacas, Jaro.
She succumbed to injuries on her head and leg and was declared dead on arrival at West Visayas State University Medical Center.
Her niece, 27-year old Geem Gamarcha, sustained wounds on her head, face, legs, and hand and is now being treated at WVSUMC.
The victims alighted from a jeepney and were about to cross the street when a Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia rammed them.
The driver, 27-year old Khent Tubilid of Barangay Lucmayan, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, did not stop to check on the victims but opted to surrender to the police station.
Tubilid said he came from Passi City and was on his way to Jaro when the incident happened.
He is detained at Jaro Police Station pending the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury.
