BACOLOD City – Policemen are probing if the death of an elderly man in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last Saturday could be linked to the trouble of his sibling in Don Salvador Benedicto town.
The victim was identified by police as Romulo Villarico, 66, of Barangay Rizal.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jesus Mesahon Jr., city police chief, said that someone called the victim outside their house.
When the victim went out, a commotion then followed until gunshots were heard.
His wife checked her husband and saw the latter already wounded, while the suspect fled.
The victim was brought to a hospital but was declared dead.
Police recovered from the scene four fired cartridges of a .45 caliber firearm.
Mesahon said the victim’s sibling had trouble with a group in Don Salvador Benedicto town.
The group proposed a settlement, but the victim allegedly opposed it, he added.
Mesahon said they are checking with Don Salvador Benedicto town police force the report regarding the said trouble, so that they may know if it could be linked to the shooting incident.
“Basi bala nadalahig lang ang biktima tungod kuno ga oppose sa settlement sang grupo na naka trouble sang utod niya,” the police chief added.
Mesahon said they are checking for a possible closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage nearby to possibly identify the perpetrator/s.
