Another shooting episode happened in Calinog, Iloilo Monday morning.
Just like some incidents in the past, land dispute allegedly triggered the gun attack.
Police identified the victim as Jaime Clarito, 56, a resident of Sitio Bulikaw, Barangay Alibunan, Calinog.
Clarito suffered gunshot injuries on his face. He was taken to Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City for treatment.
Police Captain Genesis Roque, Calinog police chief, said that Clarito’s assailant was his cousin, 65-year-old Roberto Chiva, also a resident of the said place.
Early that day, the victim went to his farm to get his carabao.
Roque said the suspect waylaid Clarito near a river around 8:30 a.m. Monday. He shot the victim several times before fleeing.
Roque noted that Chiva was riding a motorcycle and had a backpack with him.
“He planned the attack, as well as his escape,” he said.
While Chiva votes and maintains a house in Calinog, he has been staying in Jaro, Iloilo City for some time already.
A manhunt operation was launched but failed to arrest Chiva.
Three days ago, a village councilman from Calinog shot his nephew.
Barangay Kagawad Romy Canja, 45, allegedly waylaid and shot his sister’s son, 25-year old Jemar Libuna, around 9:30 a.m. of Saturday at the hinterland village of Supanga.
Libuna succumbed to pellet wounds on his chest, neck, and jaw.
Investigation showed that the suspect’s family has been at odds with the Libunas following a land dispute.
