BACOLOD City – A senior citizen was killed after he was run over by a truck hauler loaded with sugarcane in Barangay Dancalan, Ilog, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
The victim was identified as Reynaldo Genito Jr., 77, of the said village.
Police Captain Thurslie Castillo, Ilog town police chief, said that Genito attempted to overtake the truck driven by 23-year-old Apolinario Ferrer Jr. of Kabankalan City that he was tailing.
But, since they were approaching a curve part of the road, Genito decided to return to his lane.
“Daw nabudlayan na siya maglusot kay blind spot pa gid,” Castillo said.
However, Genito was hit by the truck. “Kalaba ni abi ang truck, pagbalik niya sa lane niya, na alang-alang man siya (Genito) siguro,”’Castillo said.
Genito was rushed to Lorenzo D Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Castillo said that Ferrer will be released after the lapse of his 18-hour reglementary detention.
But, Genito’s family will pursue a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties on regular filing against Ferrer, Castillo said.
