A 62-year-old man was taken into police custody after he allegedly hacked his son in Maasin, Iloilo, late on Feb. 1.
No charges were filed against the suspect, identified only as alias Ceron, a resident of Barangay Canawili, Maasin.
Lt. Cyrone Empedrad, Maasin police chief, said the suspect’s son, 43-year-old Jay-R, declined to pursue a case against his father.
Before the incident, police said the victim and the suspect went on a drinking binge with Jay-R’s cousin at Ceron’s home.
Empedrad said a misunderstanding between the two led to a heated argument.
Empedrad said Jay-R was known for being “annoying” when he was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect then took a bolo and attacked his son.
Jay-R sustained a minor forehead injury and a hematoma on his face after he was struck by the spine of the bolo.
Police said the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect was released after the reglementary period of detention.
