BACOLOD City – Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)- Negros Occidental retrieved the body of an elderly man after his tricycle fell into the waters of the Bacolod Real Estate and Development Corp. (Bredco) port here last Friday.
The fatality was identified as Nestor Ponce, 64, of Barangay Villamonte here.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG-Negros Occidental head, said that a crew member of a cargo vessel informed authorities that he saw the tricycle fall into 24-foot deep waters.
The PCG personnel responded and recovered first the victim’s tricycle. Ponce’s body, which was pinned down by the tricycle, was retrieved a few minutes later.
Benjamin said that the victim suffered a head injury probably due to the impact of the fall.
He said tricycles were allowed to enter the port at that time because of the roll-on roll-off (Roro) operations.
The Coast Guard could not determine if the incident was intentional or an accident due to a malfunction.
