ILOILO CITY — A 62-year-old man accused of raping a minor was arrested on the afternoon of Aug. 27 in Dingle, Iloilo.
Alias “Je,” a laborer from Barangay Camambugan, Dingle, was arrested in Barangay San Jose.
Members of the Dingle Municipal Police Station apprehended the suspect by virtue of warrants of arrest for rape by sexual assault and statutory rape.
The Family Court, Branch 6, in Dumangas issued the arrest warrants on Aug. 26, 2026.
Bail of PHP 180,000 was recommended for the sexual assault charge, while no bail was recommended for the statutory rape case.
Police Capt. Alwin Salmon, Dingle police chief, said the suspect ranked No. 5 on Iloilo province’s most wanted list.
Salmon said the suspect was hauled to court for allegedly molesting his 15-year-old neighbor.
Under Republic Act No. 11648, the age threshold for statutory rape was raised to under 16 years old, subject to a limited close-in-age exception under the law.
Meanwhile, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director Police Col. Bayani Razalan emphasized the importance of sustained and coordinated efforts in locating wanted persons and ensuring that they are brought before the courts.
“This is about our commitment and perseverance to locate and arrest those persons who are hiding from the long arms of the law,” he said.
Razalan also cited the support and cooperation extended by the community in bringing remaining wanted persons before the courts and making them answer for the offenses they allegedly committed.
The accused is currently in the custody of the Dingle Municipal Police Station for documentation before being turned over to the court concerned.
