Elderly farmer nabbed in gun raid

A 70-YEAR-old farmer was arrested following a firearm raid early morning of Feb. 5, 2018 in San Dionisio, Iloilo.
Felicity Cortez was collared at his house in Barangay Cubay, San Dionisio.
Members of San Dionisio Police Station swooped down on the suspects house by virtue of an arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Recovered from Cortezs possession were a caliber .45 Armscor pistol (serial number 238219) and two magazine assemblies and two fire cartridges of caliber .45 pistol.
Inspector Edgar Labiscase, San Dionisio police chief, said the police acted on reports that the suspect had been publicly brandishing his guns.
Some claimed that the incident happened during a CLOA (Certificate of Land Ownership Award) distribution in their area.
It remains unclear if Cortez is a beneficiary or owns a farm near the awarded property.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged for violation of RA 10591.
