EJ Obiena ends Olympic pole vaulting stint

Filipino EJ Obiena ended his Tokyo Olympics campaign with an 11^th place finish in the final round of the men’s pole vaulting.

Obiena failed to advance to the next height after failing to clear the 5.80-meter mark after three tries.

Despite being given a fourth attempt to clear the height because of a won protest, Obiena still wasn’t able to land perfectly and saw his Tokyo stint end.

Obiena nearly completed the 5.80-mark after clearing the vertical height but the problem was how he always fell.

In two of his tries, Obiena had no problem going up for the clear but his legs touched the measuring bar causing it to fall.

Obiena was still impressive after completing the 5.70-meter height with ease in his third attempt and looked to be in contention for a good finish but the other representatives also brought their A-game in the final phase.

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis was hailed as the champion in the category after clearing a spectacular height of 6.02-meters.
