EJ Obiena was unstoppable once again and delivered a gold medal for the Philippines in the recently concluded Stabhochsprung Manner athletic meet in Leverkusen, Germany.
With several weeks left before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Obiena and his camp are just wrapping up the last part of their intensive training.
The gold medal is another impressive achievement for the Filipino pole-vaulter as he shared first-place honors with 2016 Olympic champion Thiago Braz.
Both Obiena and Braz recorded the same score of 5.80 meters in their second attempts with the trailing athletes reaching the marks in their third attempts.
Lita Baehre Bo Kanda of Germany had the same score as Obiena and Braz but made it in his third attempt to secure the third-place finish.
Obiena is currently on a roll and is fresh off a first-place finish during the Jump and Fly competition with an impressive 5.85-meters tally.
The prized Filipino athlete made history as the feat set a new outdoor Philippine record.
