Eight sabungeros face raps over cockfighting

Eight cockfight enthusiasts were arrested afternoon of Aug. 2, 2020 in Numancia, Aklan.

Police identified the suspects as Roel Inac, 33; Eliseo Lachica, 37; Ronel Gomez, 27; Joseph Basid, 41; Edsel Lachica, 25; Jeoffrey del Rosario, 42; and Ralph Anthony Fernandez, 25. All are residents of Bulwang village.

Also arrested was Danilo Zonio, 52, of New Buswang, Kalibo town.

Members of Numancia Police Station conducted their anti-illegal gambling operations following an information from a tipster.

Recovered from the scene was a dead fighting cock, a live fighting cock, 2 gaffs and bet money amounting to P4,740.

The suspects will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974) and Republic Act 11332 (Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act).
