ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Eight persons were arrested Tuesday noon, April 7, for alleged illegal fishing in the waters off Barangay Balaring, Ivisan, Capiz.
The suspects, whose identities were withheld, were residents of Barangays Libas and Barra in Roxas City and Barangay Laging Banwa, Mandaon, Masbate.
Authorities said the suspects were caught in the act by personnel from the Capiz Provincial Bantay Dagat and the Ivisan police while allegedly conducting illegal fishing using a trawl without the required permit.
Recovered from the suspects were a motorboat worth PHP 430,000, fishing gear worth PHP 120,000 and 15 kilos of assorted fish worth PHP 1,500.
The suspects, along with the confiscated boat, fishing gear and fish, were placed under the custody of the Capiz Provincial Bantay Dagat substation in Barangay Balogo, Pilar, Capiz, for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate charges.
