BACOLOD City – Mayor Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona, Negros Occidental tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Malacon, who is the first mayor in the province to get infected by the virus, is admitted to a private hospital here.
His lawyer, Ariel Malunes, told Aksyon Radyo Thursday that the mayor is out of danger.
Malunes said Malacon experienced on and off fever and body pains on August 2.
The mayor thought it was just an ordinary flu due to the change in weather.
But when he experienced cough, the mayor decided to subject himself to a swab test which turned out positive for the virus.
Malunes said that the mayor has not reported to his office since experiencing the symptoms.
He also confirmed that some of the mayor’s immediate family also tested positive.
The acting municipal mayor now is Vice Mayor Eric Matulac.
