E-bike driver killed in Bacolod grudge shooting

BACOLOD CITY — A personal grudge reportedly led to the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old electric bike driver in Barangay Handumanan on Sunday.
Police identified the victim by his alias “Rene” and the suspect as alias “Reymark.”
An investigation showed that Rene and Reymark figured in a heated argument on Saturday but were pacified.
The two had another altercation the following day, which allegedly led to the shooting.
Police said Rene suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and later died at a hospital.
Police operatives are conducting follow-up investigations and pursuit operations to locate and arrest the suspect.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man from Murcia, Negros Occidental, surrendered to police on Sunday for allegedly killing an 80-year-old man inside his home in Barangay Handumanan on Friday.
The victim was found dead inside a restroom with injuries to his head and chest.
Capt. Lelanie Lagoting, head of Police Station 10, said in a radio interview that the suspect was renting a house beside the victim’s residence in Barangay Handumanan.
Lagoting said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage helped police identify a person of interest who was last seen entering the victim’s house before the body was discovered.
Based on the CCTV footage, the victim and the suspect could be heard arguing, although their conversation was unclear.
Lagoting said the suspect appeared reluctant during the investigation and provided only limited information about the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine how the victim died and establish a motive.
Police noted that the victim’s valuables were intact when authorities inspected the house.
Lagoting said the suspect told police that he had previously been jailed for illegal drugs and illegal gambling at the Pasay City Jail.
