Two persons were arrested for allegedly engaging in a cockfight at an unauthorized venue morning of Dec 5, 2020 in Igbaras, Iloilo.
Police nabbed Jemmy Eufan, 50, and Resty Ermoso, 18, during an anti-illegal gambling operation 11:30 am Saturday at Barangay Calampitao, Igabras.
There were several persons at a makeshift cockpit when police barged in, but they scampered when they saw the cops.
Recovered from the scene of the incident were a wounded fighting cock with gaff, seven dead fighting cocks, a weighing scale, a bag, 11 gaffs and some gaffing paraphernalia, identification card and driver’s license of a certain Joey Esperida y Estribor, black eye glasses, a lighter, and a mobile phone.
Police seized P5,030 cash from Eufan.
Last week, nine persons were also caught engaging in an unauthorized cockpit at Leganes town.
Prior to that, Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, has reiterated to chiefs of police in the province to strictly implement Executive Order No. 284 which mandated the monitoring of the operation of cockpits and the conduct of cockfighting under the provisions of NIATF Resolution No. 79 and DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2020-140.
