DTI VI conducts workshop to strengthen IT-BPM sector

In its aim to establish a robust environment for innovative development in the region, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-6 will hosted a Regional Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) Technology and Innovation Mapping Workshop via Zoom on June 24 to 25, 2021.

The activity intends to map out the IT-BPM industry in Western Visayas as innovation initiatives of various stakeholders will also be presented to support the development of the sector.

“A comprehensive baseline data is a huge step in our aspiration of becoming the next IT-BPM hub in the country, as well as the next Regional Inclusive Innovation Center,” DTI Regional Director Rebecca M. Rascon said.

Jonathan D. De Luzurriaga, president of the Philippine Software Industry Association and the CEO of Spring Valley Tech Corp., served as the program facilitator.

Ricky Salvador, executive director on Industry and External Affairs, IBPAP, presented the IT-BPM Ecosystem in the Philippines: The Role of the Countryside.

Opportunities in the IT-BPM sector were presented by the following:

Animation –  Juan Miguel Del Rosario, president of the Animation Council of the Philippiines, Inc. (ACPI);

Game Development – Alvin Juban, president and CEO of the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP);

Health Information Management Services – Rogelio Salazar, Jr., president of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP);

IT and Software – Jomar Bernedo, board of director of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA);

Contact Center – Jojo Uligan, president and CEO of the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP); and,

Shared Services – Paolo La’O, board chair of the Global In-House Center Council of the Philippines (GICC).

The workshop started in Thursday afternoon until Friday.

The workshop is expected to demonstrate strong and sustainable collaboration and linkages between and among government, industry and academe by identifying their current status and solicit in filling out the industry building blocks/parameters that will support in the mapping; proactive and supportive stakeholders in technology and innovation activities in the region; and, a baseline data on IT-BPM technology and innovation mapping matrix with basic parameters (talent, business environment, infrastructure and cost efficiency).

Prior to this workshop, the DTI-6 has conducted innovation dialogue series with the academe and IT-BPM organizations to discuss the challenges and gaps faced by local startups and how will the DTI assist them in the new business environment.

On June 15, the DTI likewise held an IT-BPM Regional Stakeholders Meeting.
